Iphone 6 vs LG G3 – Battle of Flagships

With so many new powerhouse smartphones coming out, it’s hard to make an educated decision. LG has been constantly pushing out some exceptional models, and more recently, Apple has also released its highly anticipated iPhone 6. The LG G3 is a specs beast, there is no doubt about that. When you look at it on paper, everything from its processor to  its display and camera screams of top notch quality specs. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 is not about the specs, but more about what it can do and how it does it.

We’re going to compare the two to give you a better idea of what might it you best and which of the two is ultimately the better choice and the bigger phone for the buck.

Design Comparison

Even for a plastic constructed phone, the LG G3 has an appealing design on its own. However, it’s still not as attractive when compared to the iPhone 6’s new redesign. The iPhone 6 is just more compact, thinner and on top of that, sturdier with its choice in materials. The LG G3 standout design characteristics include its power button and volume controls, which are now placed in the rear. You also have a ION blaster on the top edge which doubles as a universal remote, as well as a removable rear cover which grants us access to its internal battery and also has a microSD card slot.

Meanwhile, for the iPhone 6, we have non other than its Touch ID bio-metric fingerprint sensor which is incorporated into the home button, and it’s continuing to offer the best implementation out there. Frankly the LG G3 has the more attractive looking display, probably because of its high resolution. So what we have on the iPhone is a 4.7 inch,  1334 x 750 retina display, giving it a pixel density count of only 326 ppi pixel density, that is a lot lower than the 538 ppi pixel density of the LG G3’s massive 5.5 inch, 1440 x 2560 Quad HD display. Even though they are not necessarily perfect, the two displays are real good when it comes to reproducing colors, they are not inaccurate or over-saturated. The iPhone 6’s display is more potent with its brightness app of 606 nits in comparison to the 455 nit brightness of the LG G3.

UI and Handling Comparison

They have different qualities that appeal to different types of people or groups of people. With iOS 8, simplicity is the word that comes to mind, so basically you have something that is very easy to use, it’s intuitive and when you give it to the average person, anyone can pick it up right away. It also has a pretty good app ecosystem. In comparison, with the LG G3, LG has done a fantastic job updating its UI for the phone and it’s just cleaner and fresher, while at the same time it has an expanding set of software features that outnumber the iPhone 6’s set. If you are a power user you’ll definitely appreciate the value you get out of the LG G3 experience.

Performance Comparison

These two are power-houses when it comes to there performances, but on paper some people might be attracted to the beefier specs with the LG G3. It’s powered by a quad-core 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with 3 GB of RAM, and those numbers alone might seem a lot more alluring than the dual-core 1.4 GHz, Apple A8 processor with 1 GB of RAM in the iPhone 6. However, the iPhone 6’s chipset is based on a 64 bit architecture. The benchmark tests kinda favor both handsets, and their everyday usage will also exhibit the same quality. They are very smooth and fine where performance is concerned, but when it comes to graphics, in the benchmark tests the iPhone 6 edges out the LG G3 in some areas. However, when it comes to everyday real world performance you would hardly notice any slow down with either device.

Connectivity Comparison

Due to their flagship statuses, they are offered with pretty much the same connectivity features. Both phones are also available in all 4 major carriers here in the US. So you have 4G LTE connectivity, you get really fast page-loads, download speed with the web browser experience and the phones also feature assisted GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, dual band WiFi, and you also have NFC on board both. The LG G3 also includes an ION blaster which supplements its feature set.

Camera Comparison

The iPhone 6 has an 8 MP eye-sight camera which features an F 2.2 aperture lens, a duo LED Flash and up to 1080p video recording. Meanwhile the LG G3 has a higher 13 MP camera, with an F 2.4 aperture lens that also has duo LED Flash, but its video capture tops out at 4k which is of course pretty impressive. The iPhone 6 has a very simple yet highly effective camera app, it has slow-motion, time-lapse, panoramic and HDR mode. However, when it comes to manual control, it comes up short, the only options what included being touch-focus and adjusting the exposure.

The LG G3 is pretty rich with the manual modes and is really fast with its focus. After taking several samples we can’t deny the obvious fact that these two are really capable phones when it comes to snapping photos, they are just sharp, vivid, lively with colors and they have a fair amount of detail. Of course with the LG G3 we get a bit more, which is good for cropping later on, but the iPhone 6’s results are still pretty good.

Low-light performances are also ideal with both, you have a very little noise with the iPhone 6. The G3 sometimes suffers from a bit of blurriness, but it’s still a pretty good performer. They record some amazing 1080p video and quality isalmost the same. You get quality detail, smooth transition, not much shakyness, nice colors. The one thing worth mentioning is that the iPhone 6 just has a little bit better audio recording.

Conclusion

So which phone should you go with? Well if you are on a budget or you are kinda tight with the spending right now you might look into picking up the LG G3. That’s because you might pick this up for free with your contract or as much as $15, depending on where you look. So the LG G3 has a lot of value when you when you think about its specs, and the performance delivers.

If you have money to spend and you want to go with a more premium device, then the iPhone 6 is going to be your handset, as it takes some nice photos. While it might not be as specs heavy as the LG G3, the outcome is still top-notch, and there’s definitely appeal in Apple’s new iOS 8. Overall however, the LG G3 brings a better bang for the buck, and that’s something worth considering.
