Amazon Fire Phone sale cuts price to $200

It seems Amazon has finally realized that the Fire Phone wasn’t going to happen, at least not for the $650 price tag they slapped on it at launch. Consequently, the company has now slashed the Amazon Fire Phone price to an amazing $200 tag, which makes the phone desirable to say the least. The company’s handset didn’t release to positive reviews and interest in the device was medium to low, which is not flattering for one of the biggest e-commerce sites in the world.

With the huge discount in the Amazon Fire Phone price, the retailer hopes to raise interest in its somewhat failed attempt at a popular flagship. Taking into consideration that similarly specced phones like the Galaxy Alpha are well over $400 in certain markets, the Fire Phone price makes the device competitive and interesting, especially since we’re in the midst of the year’s biggest shopping season. Amazon is trying to sell the remaining Fire Phone stock so if you want to buy the device for this really low price, you should hurry up and head on to Amazon. Did I mention that we’re talking about an unlocked Fire Phone that you can buy for $200? Yes indeed, unlocked, no carrier, no contract.

The Amazon Fire Phone was marketed as a unique and innovative new smartphone, but truth is that it’s not anything one would write home about. The special feature the company tried to focus on was the Dynamic Perspective sensor system in its camera, which would track your face, Aside from this pretty unique feature, the Fire Phone is but a mid-range smartphone with a 4.7 inch LCD screen. You get a 720p resolution to go along with that, a pretty good Snapdragon 800 CPU backed by 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage and an attractive camera setup with a 13 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 2.1 MP selfie shooter.

The catch with the Amazon Fire Phone price cut is that it’s only available for the 32 GB version of the phone, you still have to pay the full price if you want more storage. Since the Amazon flagship doesn’t have a microSD card slot, you might want to think it through before giving in to the discount. To be honest, I find 32 GB of internal storage enough for the average smartphone user, save for those who like to store videos and movies on their phones. There’s always the cloud, though, so if you are thinking of taking advantage of the great offer, you shouldn’t be that worried about storage.

The Amazon Fire Phone $200 is great, since you do get a free year of Amazon Prime and unlimited cloud storage for the photos you shoot with the device. All that combined with the acceptable specs should make for a great purchase, especially with the massively discounted price. Be wary though, because the Fire Phone only works with GSM networks, so no Verizon or Sprint CDMA networks will be compatible. Do you think the Amazon Fire Phone for $200 is a good deal or would you still refrain from buying it?
