Krypton is not destroyed on SyFy

The DC TV universe is once again breaking new grounds and this time we won’t explore a city, or a small town but a whole planet. And not just any planet but Superman’s birth place, Krypton. We all know the man of steel’s origin story and in every iteration of this tale his home planet is destroyed and he is sent to Earth to become a hero. Well, Krypton is alive and well thanks to David S. Goyer, Ian Goldberg and SyFy who will explore the planet while it was still alive and well.

This origin story seems to be hot on Gotham’s track, another show where the story takes place several years before another beloved hero was just a boy. While Gotham was set when Bruce Wayne was just a child, the story behind Krypton will be set many years before Superman was even born. According to the description that IGN provided, we will follow Superman’s grandfather on a yet to be exploding planet : “Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.” So basically it’s a large scale Gotham and with a bigger mission. Plus some worthy sci-fi.

The pilot for the prequel series will be written by Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time) and is based on a idea that was thought up along with David S. Goyer (Constantine, The Dark Knight). The two are also set to executive produce. This said, DC is preparing a strong TV force with other announced projects that are on the production line. We have Supergirl on CBS, Lucifer and Global Frequency on FOX and Titans on TNT. Superhero shows are the next big thing and judging from the overall evidence, DC wins at television while Marvel is currently the kingpin in the movies department. Now we just have to wait a bit until we see if Batman v Superman will tip the scales. Syfy currently has no airing date for Krypton.
