Top 10 Android Games December 2014

Android games are are the savior for many gamers during the holidays. With the end of the year fast approaching, I figured the time was right to break down the best Android games for the month of December. These are the games that will keep you playing on into the new year after helping you survive all of your Aunt Doris’ stories.

CounterSpy

Comic fans who’ve got 5 bucks burning a hole in their pockets should pay attention to this game. Among the millions of options available to Android users, I really enjoyed the premise and the game design of CounterSpy. As you work to prevent the launch of nuclear missiles in the midst of the Cold War, the action and the wonderful game design will keep you glued to your Android device. And this is where comic fans will really appreciate CounterSpy, the character design is deeply rooted in comics. As a fan of historical fiction, the Cold War themed action of CounterSpy definitely gets my vote for one of the best Android games.

Spiderman Unlimited

And speaking of comic book fans, Spiderman Unlimited promises to give you the most bang for your buck. Oh, that’s right! This game is completely free through the Google Play Store so you have literally nothing to lose by checking out this entertaining Android game. (There is the option for in app purchases but you don’t have to partake in order to enjoy gameplay.) You’ll get to tangle with your favorite characters from the Spiderman universe as you enjoy the running based action. What makes this game even more remarkable is the fact that it is hand-drawn. Yup! Much like those classic Disney films, the fact that Spiderman Unlimited is hand drawn makes it feel special. But don’t think that’s the only selling point for this game. The vibrant comic style environments, awesome soundtrack and slick gameplay will have you webslinging for hours.

Skull Legends

Got a dollar? Sure, you can head to the dollar store or you could head to the Google Play Store and snag Skull Legends. So what will that dollar buy you? You’ll get hours of entertainment thanks to the wonderful animated skeletons, thrilling sound effects that will keep you entertained no matter how long until your next Halloween party. The towed defense and FPS gameplay of this Android game will be utilized in a myriad of situations such as building, fighting, transforming plants in a world with characters that are way more fun than terrifying.

The Sagas of Fire Wolf

The Sagas of Fire Wolf is the priciest offering on this list of the best Android games I’ve found for the month of December. It rings in at $9 but it is well worth any Christmas scratch you may have received. Why? Well, it is a card and board game with a sweet retro feel to it. You get your money’s worth as the purchase price gets you four gamebooks, a well designed sound effects and a lot of good looking adventures to embark on. Those of you who are already acquainted with Tin Man creations will already feel at home with The Sagas of Fire Wolf. Bear in mind that if you’re an FPS, adventure or puzzle game fan perhaps this card and board based game might not be your cup of tea.

Anomaly Defenders

For $3.75 you can enjoy one of the best strategy games available for Android gamers. This tower defense game will have you hooked within minutes of playing Anomaly Defenders. As the final chapter of the Anomaly series, it’s fast paced tower dynamic is played out as aliens are pitted against humans. The speedy tower defense game dynamic is a welcome change from the earlier installments of the Anomaly series. With hours of entertainment it is no wonder that Anomaly Defenders is so highly regarded amongst hardcore Android gamers.

Angry Birds Stella

No top games list would be complete without an entry from the ubiquitous Angry Birds games. The latest addition to Rovio’s saga is Angry Birds Transformers, but since it just came out on December 23rd, I’ll instead focus on Angry Birds Stella since I’ve spent more time with it. Since it’s an Angry Birds title you pretty much already know the drill however this one comes with Spice Girl style girl power. Yep! This free Angry Birds game comes with a feminine twist which is sure to keep the fairer sex working through the usual Angry Birds style strategy.

Hellraid: The Escape

If Angry Birds Stella was too saccharine for you, then fear not! I’ve got you covered. If you’re a fan of The Room and The Room Two then Hellraid: The Escape is the Android game for you. It’s a creepy game set in a dark environment that features bloody and gruesome gameplay. Just be sure to keep the lights on when you play because it had me twitchy and nervous a few times.

Hyper Trip

If you’re in the market for a free game that’s like Super Hexagon then Hyper Trip is the game for you. This is a challenging but rewarding game that will have you navigating obstacles while traversing countless mazes. You will probably tear your hair out when you die for the millionth time because of the occasionally clunky controls. (Okay, okay.. it’s not really the controls, it’s me.)

Light in the Dark

Puzzle game fans will want to check out this $2 Android Game. Be forewarned that if you’re cool with a cutsie feel (Think of games like Pou) then the happy and colorful environments will be rewarding to play through. Basically, the premise of Light in the Dark is that you have to build your way toward lost stars by completing a hieroglyphic treasure hunt and use light to generate flow through various nooks and crannies and even some tombs. This fun colorful entry will certainly eat up the hours without you knowing it!

Daddy Long Legs

Remember that QWOP running game? Well Daddy Long Legs will certainly remind you of it the first time you start playing, though it’s the funnier version of the same challenging QWOP game. People with tempers beware! This game is not for you. While just trying to get Daddy Long Legs to walk is difficult, it is a rewarding challenge for those with the patience to work through this Android game.
