DxO One: The real camera for the iPhone

Ever wished that your mobile had just that little bit better camera, perhaps one that behaved more like a SLR of the old school. Perhaps you had been wanting to do a little more sophisticated photography than adding tints or borders to the shot.

Well its possible now because DxO Labs have made a camera attachment for the iPhone, the company have a long history of making cameras. They have the experience of designing, making and supplying mobile companies with the cameras for their phone but this time they are doing something for themselves.

The DxO one is their camera that has been designed to be used whilst attached to your phone, although it is possible to use without the phone, it’s just that you would not be able to see the picture as it has no screen. DxO Labs camera is no more than three inches in size, and weighs approximately four ounces this means it’s a comfortable attachment to the iPhone and very easy to carry around in a pocket.

The DxO one camera has an F1.8 lens with manual expose controls, it also has a few RAW shooting modes as well as its top shutter speed being 1/8000 of a second. The one camera has a lightening connector on its side which means that it is actually only compatible with i0s devices that have that plug, this is a bit of a shame as it means you are tied to getting compatible equipment, but not a problem as iPhones are so popular anyway.

The one is attached to the iPhone camera on a swivel mount which gives great field of view whilst taking pictures, it comeĀ  with a MicroSD slot so that you can store you images on it. Unlike a traditional SLR camera there is no zoom on the One, instead the camera is fixed to a focal length of 32mm. However due to the 20 mega pixel sensor you will be able to crop and enlarge and for the image to still look better than the best camera phone.

Due for launch in September 2015 this will be eagerly awaited, we’ll have to see what the public make of the $600 price tag.
