Huawei banned in the United States

The world’s largest telecommunications company – Huawei – was banned in the United States. The current chief executive in charge of the company declared he is not concerned about the ban, because he believes Huawei can achieve its global ambitions with or without the American market. Huawei, the major Chinese company was banned from bidding for US government contracts. This ban comes after rising concerns regarding possible espionage. Huawei has three alternating chief executives. Each chief executive runs the company for six months at a time. Guo Ping is the current chief executive. He declared that Huawei can wait as long as necessary if the US market is not yet prepared to welcome their products and services.

During the first half of the year, Huawei revenues reached $20 billion. The company is clearly successful and it is expected to surpass its revenue for last year – $ 39.4 billion. More than 65% of the company’s income comes from business conducted outside of China. Huawei operates in more than 150 countries. However, there are countries which do not welcome the Chinese company. Huawei and another company from China, ZTE, have both been banned from bidding governmental contracts in the United States. They are both suspected of industrial espionage conducted for China.  Huawei founder, Ren Zhengfei is a former soldier in the Chinese army. He formed Huawei in 1987. His collaboration with Chinese military is the main reason why his company is linked to governmental espionage. Concerns over this issue have been raised by other countries as well, like Australia.

Guo Ping, the chief executive of Huawei has denied all the accusations. He believes this suspicion upon his company will not have a negative impact on Huawei’s rise. He said that Huawei has had a growth of 19% in the first half of this year. This success was obtained without the help of the United States. He believes the company can easily maintain this trend in the future. He said Huawei will happily serve the American market in the future, if allowed to do so. He declared: “If the United States needs our products someday, we are more than happy to have the chance to serve them. If they’re not ready, we can wait”. He was asked if he believed this ban on Huawei was unfair. He replied: “I do not have that feeling. People around the world can enjoy Huawei’s products and services. If one country can’t, I feel it may be a bit unfair for their consumers. But for Huawei, it’s not very important”.

Huawei took over Ericsson in 2012. This way, it became the biggest telecommunications equipment firm. In the last five years, Huawei also became the third biggest mobile handset producer, very close to giant companies like Apple and Samsung. Guo Ping says he wants the world’s entire population to be familiar with Huawei products and they are doing everything possible to become a global brand. Last week, Huawei made it on to Interbrand’s list of 100 best global brand. It is the first Chinese company present on the list.
