Is Marisa Tomei the Right Aunt May?

Marisa Tomei is famous for her Oscar-winning role as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny or as the provocative Cassidy in The Wrestler, the majority believe. From now on, the actress might be kept in the memory of the wide public as the one who (almost) became Aunt May… Spider- Man’s Aunt May. We might know nothing about the plot of the 2017 to be released Spider-Man reboot, but the rumor of Marisa Tomei as the future aunt of Marvel superhero/ Peter Parker sure gathered a great amount of replies, debate or discussions.

It is true that the public is now spread into two different parties: those in favor and those against Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and the reactions of both teams have been monitored by Twitter. The Independent posted a list of the messages written by fans on both sides. Considering that real facts are neither for nor against, we must agree that Tomei is 50 years old and looking half her age, while the past actresses to play the part of Aunt May were Rosemary Harris (then 74) or Sally Field (then 66).

The majority of the Spider-Man fans are outraged by Marisa’s being casted as the aunt of their favorite superhero, and for good reason: Who wants to see an Aunt Mary the age of Peter Parker? Or better yet: ‘’Marisa Tomei to play Aunt May in new Spiderman reboot. Gonna be so awkward when Aunt May is way hotter than Mary Jane’’ (Ben Shapiro). For those depressing over their current age, this next reply will be a real pain: ‘’There are some things which make you feel catastrophically old. One is the idea of Marisa Tomei playing Aunt May’’ (Peter Bradshaw).

Not quoting members of the ‘’Marisa Tomei as Aunt May party’’ would be really unsuitable for an honest debate. So: ‘’Marisa Tomei as Aunt May? Yes. Freaking. Please. Definition of perfect casting’’ – this is probable an example of the most exited representative of the group. More interestingly, other names on the same side – although believing that Marisa Tomei is the right Aunt May – consider her being casted as a the old aunt of Parker a little odd: ‘’Marisa Tomei as Aunt May? Love her, but strange casting decision. I guess Peter is gonna have a ‘cool’, younger aunt. Fine by me!’’

What do you believe? Is Marisa Tomei the right Aunt May or not? Maybe someone should ask Peter Parker, I don’t think he would mind. But I bet Mary Jane would.
