Steve Jobs movie is no longer Sony’s concern

The streak of never ending bad luck for the Apple founder movie seems to continue. Sony Entertainment has announced that they will not be moving on with the Steve Jobs film  and dropped the project. Now the movie’s up for grabs sources saying that Universal Studios may be interested in acquiring the rights. The Steve Jobs centric-film had been a roller coaster ride of sorts with its ever-changing cast of A-list celebrities ranging from Leonardo DiCaprio to Christian Bale.

Bale is the last actor to drop the role of playing Steve Jobs. All is not lost, however, as Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) is still attached to direct the movie and with Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Shame) being officially confirmed to play the co-founder. Seth Rogen is still set to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The Steve Jobs project is based on Walter Isaacson’s  biography of Jobs. Danny Boyle will bring the founder on the big screen with the help of Aaron Sorkin better known for creating The West Wing and The Newsroom. He has already written the script and both of them are waiting for a potential buyer to set things in motion once again. Unfortunately this is not the only piece of bad news for the flick as one source said that Boyle needed the film to go into production in January, because there was a small time frame for him between Steve Jobs and another project.

Michael Fassbender currently has commitments with FOX’s X-men: Apocalypse so we don’t know how or when the movie will come together. This is not the first attempt to bring Steve Jobs on the big screen. Ashton Kutcher portrayed the Apple genius in 2013 in the movie entitled “Jobs” which received negative reviews for its inaccurate portrayals and ineffective performance. The movie bombed at the box office but again even with all this bad luck, surely there is a bright light along the way. Fassbender sure resembles Steve Jobs and we all know that he’s got the acting chops to pull it off. Since the project is up in the air, a release date has not been disclosed.
